DETOXIFICATION ACTION PLAN
The liver is the major organ of detoxification, but other body parts that play a detox role are the kidneys, lymph, skin, lungs and bowel. The body stores toxins in various body parts, including fat cells. Supporting your body’s natural detox can help the breaking down of fat. Do as much as you can to lighten the toxic load for your liver and gall bladder.
» Avoid alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, artificial additives, soft drinks and sweeteners.
» Start the day with warm water with a squeeze of lemon.
» Avoid fatty and fried foods.
» Have grapefruit for breakfast. Grapefruit can speed up detoxification. Check with your GP if you are on medication.
» Drink water, veggie juices or herbal teas every day. Dandelion coffee and nettle tea are particularly beneficial to the liver.
» Have a salad every day. Raw foods are cleansing and nourishing.
» Do regular 1 or 2 day cleanses (see page 134).
» Get to bed by 10.30 p.m. The liver and gall bladder are most active between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m.
» Take the herbs milk thistle and coptis. They come in tincture form or capsules, so could be added to teas or smoothies.
» Dry skin brush before you shower. This gets the lymph and waste products moving.
